The Portrait 3 machine is the smallest cutter in the Silhouette Family. It’s perfect for cutting materials up to 8 inches wide and up to 60 feet long. The Portrait is ideal for cutting any letter- and A4-sized materials like paper, cardstock, and sticker sheets as well as longer rolls of material, like vinyl or heat transfer. For me, the greatest feature about the new Portrait 3 is its ease of use & portability!! Recently, my family took a vacation in the RV, to Carolina Pines in South Carolina – (where we actually survived a night as the Hurricane made land fall!!) – I brought along my Portrait 3 (and vinyl supplies) in one of my Thirty One totes! One afternoon, while the rest of the family were at the beach, I managed to find a little time to pull her out & cut outdoors at our campsite! It was great! All I had to do was plug the Portrait 3 into the electric source on the outside of the RV (I did need an extension cord) – and we were ready to cut. Since it has Bluetooth capability, I didn’t need to use the USB cable — but easily cut via Bluetooth!
I am currently participating in the Beta testing for the soon to be released “Silhouette Go” app — so I was able to use the app on my phone to cut via Bluetooth on my Portrait 3! I also did have my computer inside, with Silhouette Studio installed, but I was testing the app, so I didn’t even need the computer for cutting the design that I had purchased from the Silhouette Design Store. The app will be released soon — they are still working to get it just right — so stay tuned for more info on that coming soon!! I will be sharing this information here with you as soon as I am able.

With the Auto Tool Detection feature, the Portrait 3 uses the same Auto Blade as the Cameo 4. It also comes with a blue Tool Adapter for the black body Sketch Pens — so you can use those new sketch pens in the Portrait, as well as all other Silhouette Cutting machines. The full Tool Adapter set does not come with the Portrait 3, but can be purchased so that you can also other Silhouette blades. Several of the tools can be used in the Portrait 3 as long as they are first put into their corresponding tool adapters. There are 4 adapters you can use with the older tools. Use the black adapter with the Standard (Ratchet) Blade, the Premium Blade, and the Fabric Blade; the gray adapter with the Deep-Cut Blade; the white adapter with the 2mm Kraft Blade; and the blue adapter with the Silhouette Sketch Pens.

The Portrait 3 can also cut without a mat — and up to 60 ft long — with a 9″ roll of vinyl. It can also be used with the optional
Silhouette Roll Feeder! Which is awesome, if you want to cut large phrases or designs from vinyl.

Portrait PixScan mat with the Portrait 3 — I downloaded these cute Back To School stickers from kellylollar.com and printed them on the Silhouette White Sticker Paper. Using my PixScan mat, I was able to cut them easily with the Portrait 3!! Its a great way to cut items that are not cut files, or small pieces of vinyl – -or even “fussy cut” fabric!
